• provide advice and support on LS/CMI matters to others within their service;
  • contribute to any learning in and between the community and prison settings with regard to the use of the method;
  • enable identification of any issues with the content and system that might inform future developments;
  • develop and contribute towards quality assurance measures (supporting best practice in the use of the LSCMI…and risk assessment & management more generally).
  • disseminate information in relation to updates/ developments/ learning;

Working with mentors, we are looking to develop the role of what were called clinical champions during the national implementation phase into more than just being the source of help and support for practitioners in their area.

Most identified mentors will be first line managers who have adequate IT skills and are regular users of the method/ system. However, given line managers in some areas have a limited role in the actual use of the method, then a mix of practitioners and line managers and any other roles who could contribute have been identified as mentors in some areas.

There are currently over one hundred mentors established nationally to act as appropriate knowledge owners and to implement quality assurance mechanisms within services. Coordinating/lead mentors have been identified across all local authority areas as a consequence of a community based requirements gathering exercise carried out in March 2016. It was agreed that this would allow communications to be channelled more effectively in some situations (such as the submission of change requests which have to be approved and submitted by LS/CMI mentors). This will prevent duplication of work and will allow for streamlining of the process for areas with a large amount of identified mentors.

During the requirements gathering workshops, and subsequently by the LS/CMI Working Group, it was agreed that any newly identified mentors will require endorsement by their line manager prior to inclusion within the current mentors list. This was seen as beneficial for line managers as they would be able to have oversight of the current mentors within their local authority and to ensure the most appropriate individuals were identified to adopt the mentoring role.


Change Control Process

Completed change requests should be submitted by an identified LS/CMI mentor to Julie Webber and Ian McIntosh using the following change request form below:

Submitted change requests will be considered by the LS/CMI Working Group and if the approved change request relates to the LS/CMI system it will then be considered by the System Change Control Forum.

System Change Control Forum

The System Change Control Forum has responsibility for overseeing system developments and acts as a decision making body for any proposed changes to the IT systems associated with LS/CMI, MFMC and Caledonian. Change Managers from each of the relevant working groups associated with these systems will present on any newly approved change requests for a final decision to be made on whether to include the proposed change in future development work.
